Oral mucocele exhibiting an extraoral swelling: a case report of an atypical presentation

ABSTRACT Despite being common pathological entities found in the oral cavity, mucoceles can present distinct features, raising several diagnostic possibilities and treatments. In this study, we report case of a 34-year-old man with an asymptomatic increased volume left periorbital region more than year, without remission or associated trauma. An aspiration biopsy was performed, followed by excisional biopsy, specimen sent for histopathological examination. Results led to diagnosis mucocele. Surgical removal performed biopsy. Subsequently, patient recovered promptly further complications. Although recur relatively often, its prognosis is good. This emphasizes importance obtaining detailed disease history, knowledge clinical etiopathogenesis combined complementary examinations establish hypotheses converge on adequate individualized treatment plan
